Narrative:

Just before second meal service outside egll; we hit severe turbulence. It was like being on a roller coaster (up-down; side-to-side). It lasted approximately 15-20 mins. Everyone was strapped in and there were no injuries able to do a quick compliance check prior to it getting really severe. On the ground (after); one pilot confided in me that 'at one point we were afraid we were going to lose control of the aircraft. (That made me feel good!) I have noticed an increase in severity of turbulence in recent yrs -- and an increase in occurrence.
