Narrative:

We were cruising at FL350 at 122000 pounds in the vicinity of ink VOR. Autoplt and autothrottles were engaged. The airplane was flying in 'perf opt;' with a cost index of 14. We had a tailwind of approximately 80 kits. The captain noticed the airspeed deteriorating; and he immediately disengaged the autothrottles and aggressively moved the throttles forward. I saw .716 on the mach; and I noticed the right engine compressor stalling. I stated that we had a compressor stall; and I retarded the throttles back to mct. The compressor stall stopped; and while I requested FL310; the captain again pushed the throttles back above mct; and the engine began compressor stalling again. I pulled the throttles back again (stopping the compressor stall); and made it clear that the banging noise we heard was a compressor stall. We descended to FL310; and accelerated to mach .760. All engine indications appeared normal; and we continued the flight to dfw and made an otherwise uneventful landing.

Title: MD80 FLT CREW HAS A COMPRESSOR STALL OF THE R ENG WHILE AT FL350 IN CRUISE.

Narrative: WE WERE CRUISING AT FL350 AT 122000 LBS IN THE VICINITY OF INK VOR. AUTOPLT AND AUTOTHROTTLES WERE ENGAGED. THE AIRPLANE WAS FLYING IN 'PERF OPT;' WITH A COST INDEX OF 14. WE HAD A TAILWIND OF APPROX 80 KITS. THE CAPT NOTICED THE AIRSPD DETERIORATING; AND HE IMMEDIATELY DISENGAGED THE AUTOTHROTTLES AND AGGRESSIVELY MOVED THE THROTTLES FORWARD. I SAW .716 ON THE MACH; AND I NOTICED THE R ENG COMPRESSOR STALLING. I STATED THAT WE HAD A COMPRESSOR STALL; AND I RETARDED THE THROTTLES BACK TO MCT. THE COMPRESSOR STALL STOPPED; AND WHILE I REQUESTED FL310; THE CAPT AGAIN PUSHED THE THROTTLES BACK ABOVE MCT; AND THE ENG BEGAN COMPRESSOR STALLING AGAIN. I PULLED THE THROTTLES BACK AGAIN (STOPPING THE COMPRESSOR STALL); AND MADE IT CLR THAT THE BANGING NOISE WE HEARD WAS A COMPRESSOR STALL. WE DSNDED TO FL310; AND ACCELERATED TO MACH .760. ALL ENG INDICATIONS APPEARED NORMAL; AND WE CONTINUED THE FLT TO DFW AND MADE AN OTHERWISE UNEVENTFUL LNDG.
