Narrative:

Preflight: MEL item M23-11-2 flight deck HF datalink inoperative. HF radio operations checked ok with good voice and SELCAL check. We planned to use HF voice in place of ACARS/HF datalink. Approximately half way en route sea to hnl; I attempted to obtain updates on hnl WX. Hnl and hawaiian islands had been getting heavy rain showers daily for 10 plus days. I referenced the commercial pacific chart P (H/left) 3; panel #7; -a to get the frequencys for pacific volmet broadcasts for hnl and the hawaiian areas. I checked the times to listen to the broadcast for hnl; hilo; etc; and found H+00-05 and H+30-35 on HF frequencys 2863; 6679; 8828; and 13282. The first time slot I listened to I only heard broadcasts by tokyo radio for japanese airports and auckland radio (?) for new zealand locations. I waited for the next time slot and heard the same thing. I listened to the frequencys for over an hour and never heard anything but the japanese location reports and new zealand reports. The following night; apr/sat/06; I made the return trip (hnl-sea) in a different aircraft with no MEL items. I purposely listened to the same frequencys; again hearing only the volmet broadcasts for japanese and new zealand airports. Nothing else was heard. This could potentially be a very serious matter affecting the safe operation of any aircraft en route to the hawaiian islands. If the information on volmet is published; it must be kept current and correct.

Title: B757-300 FLT CREW; DISPATCHED TO HNL WITH DATALINK DEFERRED WAS UNABLE TO RECEIVE VOLMET. BELIEVES EITHER HF VOLMET FREQS OR LISTED TIMES ON HI LEVEL ENRTE CHART ARE INCORRECT. UNABLE TO RECEIVE WX UPDATES ENRTE. OTHER PLT RPTS INDICATED THEY WERE ALSO UNABLE TO RECEIVE THE VOLMET ON THE TIMES AND FREQS PUBLISHED.

Narrative: PREFLT: MEL ITEM M23-11-2 FLT DECK HF DATALINK INOP. HF RADIO OPS CHKED OK WITH GOOD VOICE AND SELCAL CHK. WE PLANNED TO USE HF VOICE IN PLACE OF ACARS/HF DATALINK. APPROXIMATELY HALF WAY ENRTE SEA TO HNL; I ATTEMPTED TO OBTAIN UPDATES ON HNL WX. HNL AND HAWAIIAN ISLANDS HAD BEEN GETTING HVY RAIN SHOWERS DAILY FOR 10 PLUS DAYS. I REFERENCED THE COMMERCIAL PACIFIC CHART P (H/L) 3; PANEL #7; -A TO GET THE FREQS FOR PACIFIC VOLMET BROADCASTS FOR HNL AND THE HAWAIIAN AREAS. I CHKED THE TIMES TO LISTEN TO THE BROADCAST FOR HNL; HILO; ETC; AND FOUND H+00-05 AND H+30-35 ON HF FREQS 2863; 6679; 8828; AND 13282. THE FIRST TIME SLOT I LISTENED TO I ONLY HEARD BROADCASTS BY TOKYO RADIO FOR JAPANESE ARPTS AND AUCKLAND RADIO (?) FOR NEW ZEALAND LOCATIONS. I WAITED FOR THE NEXT TIME SLOT AND HEARD THE SAME THING. I LISTENED TO THE FREQS FOR OVER AN HOUR AND NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BUT THE JAPANESE LOCATION REPORTS AND NEW ZEALAND RPTS. THE FOLLOWING NIGHT; APR/SAT/06; I MADE THE RETURN TRIP (HNL-SEA) IN A DIFFERENT ACFT WITH NO MEL ITEMS. I PURPOSELY LISTENED TO THE SAME FREQS; AGAIN HEARING ONLY THE VOLMET BROADCASTS FOR JAPANESE AND NEW ZEALAND ARPTS. NOTHING ELSE WAS HEARD. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY BE A VERY SERIOUS MATTER AFFECTING THE SAFE OPERATION OF ANY ACFT ENRTE TO THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS. IF THE INFO ON VOLMET IS PUBLISHED; IT MUST BE KEPT CURRENT AND CORRECT.
