Narrative:

During our approach to ZZZ we got a leading edge slat disagreement EICAS message (previously written up) with the indicator needles between zero and flaps 1 degree. We attempted to contact dispatch/maintenance prior to the checklist to determine if diverting to ZZZ1 or ZZZ2 (longer runways) was a consideration. With fuel now at about 6000 pounds; divert to ZZZ1 or ZZZ2 was not an option and we advised we would land ZZZ. Dispatch/maintenance agreed. We extended flaps with irregular checklist/alternate flaps system and landed ILS runway 16R. During the approach we declared an emergency; briefed flight attendants; and asked tower to have emergency equipment standing by. Uneventful landing and taxi to gate -- aircraft at 180000 pounds. At the gate we briefed maintenance personnel that met the aircraft and discussed the incident with the purser for feedback.
