Narrative:

E145 and crj both in cruise at FL300. Conflict alert activated and E145 turned around crj. I never saw it coming. Trainee on d-side (d-side only) never advised me of conflicting traffic. I assume he got an alert on uret but I never saw it. Distracting factors: 1 NORDO in sector. D-side took handoff on aircraft that we couldn't climb into our airspace. Didn't call previous sector to advise so either. Pilot questioning why he couldn't climb. ZTL has been on uret for about 4 months. I'm still highly uncomfortable with it. I cannot build a mental 'picture' with it the way I could with strips.
