Narrative:

Climbing out of about 9000 ft at ZZZ1 on our way to ZZZ2; we received a 'bleed 1 overtemp' indication. We ran the checklist which had us close the #1 engine bleed. The overtemp indication went away. Immediately after that the #1 CDU screen began to malfunction and show just a bunch of numbers and letters scattered and jumping about on the screen. It then failed. It then showed CDU data bus fail on its screen. We were not sure if this had anything to do with the bleed overtemp. To be safe; and since we were so close to ZZZ1 and since we were scheduled to fly to ZZZ3 after ZZZ2; we decided to return to ZZZ1.
