Narrative:

I am training to acquire a commercial pilot's certificate and was doing a solo flight. I had just completed my run-up for taking off at runway 35. I heard a plane in the pattern making radio calls of downwind; then base; then final. I was under the impression that he was doing a touch-and-go. Once he landed; I made a radio call 'arrow XXX taxiing into position runway 35.' then I began to taxi to the beginning of the runway to get lined up with the centerline and hold. I had scanned the traffic pattern and was unaware of anyone else. When I got to the edge of the runway I stopped to wait for the runway to clear. Then I heard another plane make a radio call '(call sign) 2 mi final.' I knew that I had probably cut in front of him and didn't want an accident to occur; so I took off to get out of he way. The plane ahead of me was a ways down the runway and I was able to take off well before him and was about 200 ft above the ground before I reached where he was. I also sidestepped the runway. The plane behind me made a cal 'arrow XXX; are you aware that you're not supposed to take off with another plane on the runway?' to which I replied; 'yes; I'm sorry; I was just trying to get out of the way.' once I landed; I spoke to my instructor and he said he had spoken to the instructor in the plane and had told him what had happened. I told him that I knew that I had screwed up and that the best thing to have done in that situation was to stay still and let the guy coming in on final go around if I was ready to take off. I wasn't a factor to the plane landing but was at a closer distance to the plane on the ground. I have learned from this experience and will be more diligent and careful before taking off from a runway.

Title: PLT OF PA28 TAXIES ONTO ACTIVE RWY AT AN UNCTLED FIELD BTWN TFC JUST LANDED AND UNKNOWN TFC ON FINAL APCH. TO AVOID CONFLICT; TAKES OFF WITH PREVIOUSLY LANDED ACFT STILL ON THE RWY.

Narrative: I AM TRAINING TO ACQUIRE A COMMERCIAL PLT'S CERTIFICATE AND WAS DOING A SOLO FLT. I HAD JUST COMPLETED MY RUN-UP FOR TAKING OFF AT RWY 35. I HEARD A PLANE IN THE PATTERN MAKING RADIO CALLS OF DOWNWIND; THEN BASE; THEN FINAL. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT HE WAS DOING A TOUCH-AND-GO. ONCE HE LANDED; I MADE A RADIO CALL 'ARROW XXX TAXIING INTO POS RWY 35.' THEN I BEGAN TO TAXI TO THE BEGINNING OF THE RWY TO GET LINED UP WITH THE CTRLINE AND HOLD. I HAD SCANNED THE TFC PATTERN AND WAS UNAWARE OF ANYONE ELSE. WHEN I GOT TO THE EDGE OF THE RWY I STOPPED TO WAIT FOR THE RWY TO CLR. THEN I HEARD ANOTHER PLANE MAKE A RADIO CALL '(CALL SIGN) 2 MI FINAL.' I KNEW THAT I HAD PROBABLY CUT IN FRONT OF HIM AND DIDN'T WANT AN ACCIDENT TO OCCUR; SO I TOOK OFF TO GET OUT OF HE WAY. THE PLANE AHEAD OF ME WAS A WAYS DOWN THE RWY AND I WAS ABLE TO TAKE OFF WELL BEFORE HIM AND WAS ABOUT 200 FT ABOVE THE GND BEFORE I REACHED WHERE HE WAS. I ALSO SIDESTEPPED THE RWY. THE PLANE BEHIND ME MADE A CAL 'ARROW XXX; ARE YOU AWARE THAT YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO TAKE OFF WITH ANOTHER PLANE ON THE RWY?' TO WHICH I REPLIED; 'YES; I'M SORRY; I WAS JUST TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE WAY.' ONCE I LANDED; I SPOKE TO MY INSTRUCTOR AND HE SAID HE HAD SPOKEN TO THE INSTRUCTOR IN THE PLANE AND HAD TOLD HIM WHAT HAD HAPPENED. I TOLD HIM THAT I KNEW THAT I HAD SCREWED UP AND THAT THE BEST THING TO HAVE DONE IN THAT SIT WAS TO STAY STILL AND LET THE GUY COMING IN ON FINAL GO AROUND IF I WAS READY TO TAKE OFF. I WASN'T A FACTOR TO THE PLANE LNDG BUT WAS AT A CLOSER DISTANCE TO THE PLANE ON THE GND. I HAVE LEARNED FROM THIS EXPERIENCE AND WILL BE MORE DILIGENT AND CAREFUL BEFORE TAKING OFF FROM A RWY.
