Narrative:

I was practicing for my commercial check ride that was scheduled for the following morning. I had 4 lndgs in a very busy traffic pattern and decided to exit the pattern. I flew approximately 8 NM away to do some lazy 8's; chandelles and turns on point. I returned to fullerton and they cleared me for a straight-in landing to runway 24. The sun was in my eyes and it was hazy. I believe I completed my gumps check and I thought I saw a green light for 3 down and locked. I continued for the approach to landing. I flared to what I recalled was a porpoise and called out loud to my passenger that I had porpoised and added power to arrest the porpoise and continued down the runway. I slowly pulled power and I hear a bang under the aircraft. I immediately started a shutdown procedure; while maintaining directional control of the aircraft. I came to a stop and pulled the doors open and got out of the aircraft. I believe I completed the gumps checklist in time for landing and have no recollection of ever hitting the gear up again. The landing gear was in the down position when I came to rest but cannot ensure that I activated it upon realizing the aircraft had hit the ground. I cannot think of anything else possible at this time to completely ensure the cause of this incident. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter thinks he selected the gear handle down once impact had already occurred. Reporter also plans to utilize visual inspections of the gear position to back up what he sees in the cockpit for future flts.

Title: C172RG PVT PLT HAS A GEAR UP LNDG AT FUL.

Narrative: I WAS PRACTICING FOR MY COMMERCIAL CHK RIDE THAT WAS SCHEDULED FOR THE FOLLOWING MORNING. I HAD 4 LNDGS IN A VERY BUSY TFC PATTERN AND DECIDED TO EXIT THE PATTERN. I FLEW APPROX 8 NM AWAY TO DO SOME LAZY 8'S; CHANDELLES AND TURNS ON POINT. I RETURNED TO FULLERTON AND THEY CLRED ME FOR A STRAIGHT-IN LNDG TO RWY 24. THE SUN WAS IN MY EYES AND IT WAS HAZY. I BELIEVE I COMPLETED MY GUMPS CHK AND I THOUGHT I SAW A GREEN LIGHT FOR 3 DOWN AND LOCKED. I CONTINUED FOR THE APCH TO LNDG. I FLARED TO WHAT I RECALLED WAS A PORPOISE AND CALLED OUT LOUD TO MY PAX THAT I HAD PORPOISED AND ADDED PWR TO ARREST THE PORPOISE AND CONTINUED DOWN THE RWY. I SLOWLY PULLED PWR AND I HEAR A BANG UNDER THE ACFT. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED A SHUTDOWN PROC; WHILE MAINTAINING DIRECTIONAL CTL OF THE ACFT. I CAME TO A STOP AND PULLED THE DOORS OPEN AND GOT OUT OF THE ACFT. I BELIEVE I COMPLETED THE GUMPS CHKLIST IN TIME FOR LNDG AND HAVE NO RECOLLECTION OF EVER HITTING THE GEAR UP AGAIN. THE LNDG GEAR WAS IN THE DOWN POS WHEN I CAME TO REST BUT CANNOT ENSURE THAT I ACTIVATED IT UPON REALIZING THE ACFT HAD HIT THE GND. I CANNOT THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE POSSIBLE AT THIS TIME TO COMPLETELY ENSURE THE CAUSE OF THIS INCIDENT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR THINKS HE SELECTED THE GEAR HANDLE DOWN ONCE IMPACT HAD ALREADY OCCURRED. RPTR ALSO PLANS TO UTILIZE VISUAL INSPECTIONS OF THE GEAR POS TO BACK UP WHAT HE SEES IN THE COCKPIT FOR FUTURE FLTS.
