Narrative:

On nov/sun/05 my wife and I departed from dwh airport on a VFR flight to madison; wi. We landed in sgf for refueling. At that time the WX forecast at the ETA in madison and at least 3 other airports in the area was VFR. We departed springfield toward madison on a VFR flight and requested and obtained radar flight following. About 100 mi from madison; the WX minimums changed to MVFR and then to IFR. Several options discussed with the controller including returning to springfield or proceed to another airport. At that time the nearest airport with VFR WX was rockford; il; also 100 mi away. Fuel on board was 2.5 hours. The flight was directed to rockford and radar contact and flight following was maintained. 30 mi from rockford; the WX also dropped below the VFR minimums and became IFR. The rockford tower started radar surveillance approach for landing. Descent and landing was done safely. I might consider returning to the departure or other airports with VFR or MVFR should a similar situation arise.

Title: A NON IFR RATED PLT ON A XCOUNTRY ACCEPTED A SURVEILLANCE APCH TO A NEARBY ARPT WHEN HIS DEST AND NEARBY ARPTS BECAME IMC.

Narrative: ON NOV/SUN/05 MY WIFE AND I DEPARTED FROM DWH ARPT ON A VFR FLT TO MADISON; WI. WE LANDED IN SGF FOR REFUELING. AT THAT TIME THE WX FORECAST AT THE ETA IN MADISON AND AT LEAST 3 OTHER ARPTS IN THE AREA WAS VFR. WE DEPARTED SPRINGFIELD TOWARD MADISON ON A VFR FLT AND REQUESTED AND OBTAINED RADAR FLT FOLLOWING. ABOUT 100 MI FROM MADISON; THE WX MINIMUMS CHANGED TO MVFR AND THEN TO IFR. SEVERAL OPTIONS DISCUSSED WITH THE CTLR INCLUDING RETURNING TO SPRINGFIELD OR PROCEED TO ANOTHER ARPT. AT THAT TIME THE NEAREST ARPT WITH VFR WX WAS ROCKFORD; IL; ALSO 100 MI AWAY. FUEL ON BOARD WAS 2.5 HRS. THE FLT WAS DIRECTED TO ROCKFORD AND RADAR CONTACT AND FLT FOLLOWING WAS MAINTAINED. 30 MI FROM ROCKFORD; THE WX ALSO DROPPED BELOW THE VFR MINIMUMS AND BECAME IFR. THE ROCKFORD TWR STARTED RADAR SURVEILLANCE APCH FOR LNDG. DSCNT AND LNDG WAS DONE SAFELY. I MIGHT CONSIDER RETURNING TO THE DEP OR OTHER ARPTS WITH VFR OR MVFR SHOULD A SIMILAR SITUATION ARISE.
