Narrative:
Aircraft was placed OTS so maintenance could repair and clear MEL 31-03 for digital fdr. ZZZ was the designated airport. I allowed the mechanic to release the aircraft for flight and I returned the aircraft for revenue service without a firm diagnosis of parts required for repair and availability confirmation.

Narrative: ACFT WAS PLACED OTS SO MAINT COULD REPAIR AND CLR MEL 31-03 FOR DIGITAL FDR. ZZZ WAS THE DESIGNATED ARPT. I ALLOWED THE MECH TO RELEASE THE ACFT FOR FLT AND I RETURNED THE ACFT FOR REVENUE SVC WITHOUT A FIRM DIAGNOSIS OF PARTS REQUIRED FOR REPAIR AND AVAILABILITY CONFIRMATION.
