Narrative:

On oct/sat/05; air carrier (DC10) was in ZZZ for a charter flight. The aircraft was assigned a line check. The FAA ramp checked the plane the day before and found #3 engine lower 'C' duct door lanyards were found broken by the feds; and was written up in logbook. I was informed by management to go do the line check and take care of a write-up -- the 'door lanyards' and some brakes found bad on walkaround. I was handed a checklist and parts and told to go take care of it. There were 4 mechanics working the aircraft. I performed the line check in accordance with the checklist. 2 other mechanics worked the brake problems. The other mechanic; mr X; took care of the door lanyards. Mr X is a mechanic working with his temporary a&P license. The changed out the lanyards and said the door worked fine and everything was ok. I was asked to sign off his work due to air carrier not allowing him to sign off the work; which I did. Several days later; I was informed by a fed that the work was not completed correctly. The fed also informed me that this problem has a history on this aircraft over the last 4 months that I wasn't aware of. I was told that the wrong part number parts were installed and that the proper inspections weren't completed. I was also told that it wasn't an access door; that it was a blow-out door for the 'C' ducts. I contacted air carrier management in ZZZ in the morning and questioned him about the aircraft. He informed me that on the very next page in the logbook that the inspection was written up to inspect the 'C' duct and engine cowling and engines was to be completed. He also informed me that their answer was a deferral of that blow-out door for replacement of door and door parts and rig of door. All work was done before next flight. So I believe the cause of the problem was lack of briefing and experience on the aircraft. The work on the door should have been better inspected by myself and part numbers should have been doublechked. I believe the problem was properly corrected by management before the next flight.

Title: A DC10 CHKED BY AN FAA SAFETY INSPECTOR FOUND THE #3 ENG LOWER 'C' DUCT BLOW-OUT DOOR LANYARDS WERE THE WRONG TYPE AND HAD A MAINT HISTORY.

Narrative: ON OCT/SAT/05; ACR (DC10) WAS IN ZZZ FOR A CHARTER FLT. THE ACFT WAS ASSIGNED A LINE CHK. THE FAA RAMP CHKED THE PLANE THE DAY BEFORE AND FOUND #3 ENG LOWER 'C' DUCT DOOR LANYARDS WERE FOUND BROKEN BY THE FEDS; AND WAS WRITTEN UP IN LOGBOOK. I WAS INFORMED BY MGMNT TO GO DO THE LINE CHK AND TAKE CARE OF A WRITE-UP -- THE 'DOOR LANYARDS' AND SOME BRAKES FOUND BAD ON WALKAROUND. I WAS HANDED A CHKLIST AND PARTS AND TOLD TO GO TAKE CARE OF IT. THERE WERE 4 MECHS WORKING THE ACFT. I PERFORMED THE LINE CHK IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CHKLIST. 2 OTHER MECHS WORKED THE BRAKE PROBS. THE OTHER MECH; MR X; TOOK CARE OF THE DOOR LANYARDS. MR X IS A MECH WORKING WITH HIS TEMPORARY A&P LICENSE. THE CHANGED OUT THE LANYARDS AND SAID THE DOOR WORKED FINE AND EVERYTHING WAS OK. I WAS ASKED TO SIGN OFF HIS WORK DUE TO ACR NOT ALLOWING HIM TO SIGN OFF THE WORK; WHICH I DID. SEVERAL DAYS LATER; I WAS INFORMED BY A FED THAT THE WORK WAS NOT COMPLETED CORRECTLY. THE FED ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THIS PROB HAS A HISTORY ON THIS ACFT OVER THE LAST 4 MONTHS THAT I WASN'T AWARE OF. I CONTACTED ACR MGMNT IN ZZZ IN THE MORNING AND QUESTIONED HIM ABOUT THE ACFT. HE INFORMED ME THAT ON THE VERY NEXT PAGE IN THE LOGBOOK THAT THE INSPECTION WAS WRITTEN UP TO INSPECT THE 'C' DUCT AND ENG COWLING AND ENGS WAS TO BE COMPLETED. HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THEIR ANSWER WAS A DEFERRAL OF THAT BLOW-OUT DOOR FOR REPLACEMENT OF DOOR AND DOOR PARTS AND RIG OF DOOR. ALL WORK WAS DONE BEFORE NEXT FLT. SO I BELIEVE THE CAUSE OF THE PROB WAS LACK OF BRIEFING AND EXPERIENCE ON THE ACFT. THE WORK ON THE DOOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER INSPECTED BY MYSELF AND PART NUMBERS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOUBLECHKED. I BELIEVE THE PROB WAS PROPERLY CORRECTED BY MGMNT BEFORE THE NEXT FLT.
