Narrative:

While being marshaled into gate at oma; with the aircraft on the taxi line and being taxied at a slow speed; the marshaler gave us the 'come forward' signals. He continued to marshal us past the A319 stop line (painted on the taxi line); about 5 ft past the stop line (which we did not and could not know). This resulted in the left corner of the left engine contacting the jetway. Additionally; there were wing walkers on each side of the aircraft. It appeared the marshaller was attempting to marshal us forward to the rj/DC9 stop line versus the A319/A320 stop line. It is unknown if this was due to inattentiveness or lack of knowledge of proper procedures. Even after contact with the jetway (which we could feel on board the aircraft; but were uncertain of the cause) the marshaller was unaware of the contact as he continued to give us the 'come forward' signals. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that the marshaller was an experienced air carrier employee; not a replacement worker. The individual had some previous performance problems and was on a watch. Reporter believes the individual was dismissed from the air carrier following this incident. Aircraft damage was limited to external engine cowling destruction; but no internal damage.

Title: AN A319'S L ENG COWLING WAS DAMAGED AS THE ACFT WAS MARSHALED INTO A JETWAY WITH WING WALKERS ALSO PRESENT.

Narrative: WHILE BEING MARSHALED INTO GATE AT OMA; WITH THE ACFT ON THE TAXI LINE AND BEING TAXIED AT A SLOW SPD; THE MARSHALER GAVE US THE 'COME FORWARD' SIGNALS. HE CONTINUED TO MARSHAL US PAST THE A319 STOP LINE (PAINTED ON THE TAXI LINE); ABOUT 5 FT PAST THE STOP LINE (WHICH WE DID NOT AND COULD NOT KNOW). THIS RESULTED IN THE L CORNER OF THE L ENG CONTACTING THE JETWAY. ADDITIONALLY; THERE WERE WING WALKERS ON EACH SIDE OF THE ACFT. IT APPEARED THE MARSHALLER WAS ATTEMPTING TO MARSHAL US FORWARD TO THE RJ/DC9 STOP LINE VERSUS THE A319/A320 STOP LINE. IT IS UNKNOWN IF THIS WAS DUE TO INATTENTIVENESS OR LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF PROPER PROCS. EVEN AFTER CONTACT WITH THE JETWAY (WHICH WE COULD FEEL ON BOARD THE ACFT; BUT WERE UNCERTAIN OF THE CAUSE) THE MARSHALLER WAS UNAWARE OF THE CONTACT AS HE CONTINUED TO GIVE US THE 'COME FORWARD' SIGNALS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT THE MARSHALLER WAS AN EXPERIENCED ACR EMPLOYEE; NOT A REPLACEMENT WORKER. THE INDIVIDUAL HAD SOME PREVIOUS PERFORMANCE PROBS AND WAS ON A WATCH. RPTR BELIEVES THE INDIVIDUAL WAS DISMISSED FROM THE ACR FOLLOWING THIS INCIDENT. ACFT DAMAGE WAS LIMITED TO EXTERNAL ENG COWLING DESTRUCTION; BUT NO INTERNAL DAMAGE.
