Narrative:

In preparation for the takeoff; we taxied down the runway and back to ensure the runway was clear of wildlife; since the sun was not up and it was still dark. Once in takeoff position; I held the brakes; set the engines for takeoff power and released the brakes. Everything looked normal on the takeoff roll to both the sic and myself. Around 80 KTS; there was a flash of white outside the aircraft's right side windshield followed by a loud thump and the feeling of something impacting the aircraft. The takeoff was aborted uneventfully and the aircraft was taxied to the ramp for inspection. The engines appeared to be running normally throughout the deceleration and taxi. Upon inspection; the right engine appeared to have ingested a large bird. A significant amount of blood; meat; and feathers remained in the engine intake and was visible on the stator blades and throughout the engine's bypass duct. No damage was observed to the airframe or engines. No person was injured. No property was damaged. This airport is surrounded by wooded area. Deer; turkeys; coyotes; and other wildlife abound. The grass adjacent to the runways is tall and provides cover for the wildlife. Deer; birds; and other wildlife have been observed hiding in this tall grass on numerous occasions. The airport authorities are aware of the problem; but are hesitant to do anything to help. Simply keeping the airport property mowed would eliminate the wildlife's cover on the runway edges; and would provide pilots some protection from animals quickly emerging from their hiding place into the path of oncoming aircraft.

Title: A CITATION JET INGESTED A BIRD DURING TKOF AT EOK. PLT STATES THAT TALL GRASS NEAR THE RWYS HIDES WILDLIFE FROM VIEW.

Narrative: IN PREPARATION FOR THE TKOF; WE TAXIED DOWN THE RWY AND BACK TO ENSURE THE RWY WAS CLR OF WILDLIFE; SINCE THE SUN WAS NOT UP AND IT WAS STILL DARK. ONCE IN TKOF POSITION; I HELD THE BRAKES; SET THE ENGS FOR TKOF POWER AND RELEASED THE BRAKES. EVERYTHING LOOKED NORMAL ON THE TKOF ROLL TO BOTH THE SIC AND MYSELF. AROUND 80 KTS; THERE WAS A FLASH OF WHITE OUTSIDE THE ACFT'S RIGHT SIDE WINDSHIELD FOLLOWED BY A LOUD THUMP AND THE FEELING OF SOMETHING IMPACTING THE ACFT. THE TKOF WAS ABORTED UNEVENTFULLY AND THE ACFT WAS TAXIED TO THE RAMP FOR INSPECTION. THE ENGS APPEARED TO BE RUNNING NORMALLY THROUGHOUT THE DECELERATION AND TAXI. UPON INSPECTION; THE R ENG APPEARED TO HAVE INGESTED A LARGE BIRD. A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF BLOOD; MEAT; AND FEATHERS REMAINED IN THE ENG INTAKE AND WAS VISIBLE ON THE STATOR BLADES AND THROUGHOUT THE ENG'S BYPASS DUCT. NO DAMAGE WAS OBSERVED TO THE AIRFRAME OR ENGS. NO PERSON WAS INJURED. NO PROPERTY WAS DAMAGED. THIS ARPT IS SURROUNDED BY WOODED AREA. DEER; TURKEYS; COYOTES; AND OTHER WILDLIFE ABOUND. THE GRASS ADJACENT TO THE RWYS IS TALL AND PROVIDES COVER FOR THE WILDLIFE. DEER; BIRDS; AND OTHER WILDLIFE HAVE BEEN OBSERVED HIDING IN THIS TALL GRASS ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE ARPT AUTHORITIES ARE AWARE OF THE PROB; BUT ARE HESITANT TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP. SIMPLY KEEPING THE ARPT PROPERTY MOWED WOULD ELIMINATE THE WILDLIFE'S COVER ON THE RWY EDGES; AND WOULD PROVIDE PLTS SOME PROTECTION FROM ANIMALS QUICKLY EMERGING FROM THEIR HIDING PLACE INTO THE PATH OF ONCOMING ACFT.
