Narrative:

Upon arrival at ZZZ for our next assignment; I was informed of engine damage to the #2 engine on the plane we flew the night before. The observed damage was to the acoustic shield at numerous positions with dents and pieces missing. After talking to air carrier maintenance and the duty flight manager; I was informed that they suspect a baggage scanner was ingested. I was also informed that it was reported that people saw sparks coming from the #2 engine on taxi out. No on ever communicated that fact to me through the 25 minutes between brake release and takeoff. All engine parameters and vibration on the airplane were normal during the flight. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated; 'the thing that really disappoints and angers me about the whole event is that individuals witnessed the engine start up; saw sparks coming out of the engine and did nothing. The airplane was on the ground for 30 minutes from engine start to takeoff. No one thought to advise the crew of this incident and the airplane was flown to the scheduled destination for an overnight layover.' in the morning; the station manager advised the reporter of right engine damage. Reporter stated that the acoustic panels were damaged and the abradable material had pieces broken out. The inlet cowling required replacement.
