Narrative:

On this flight to denver; we received taxi instructions from spot X to taxi runway 17R full length. This was a very short taxi from spot X. We were expecting a runway 18L taxi and had 1 engine shut down for fuel conservation. We called the flight attendants to tell them short taxi. I was taxiing slow so that we would not be rushed to comply. As we turned eastbound on taxiway ef from taxiway J; we received a 'clear for takeoff' clearance. The first officer looked at me for guidance as to whether to accept the clearance since we had the second half of the mechanical checklist to accomplish. I nodded that we could finish the checklist so we acknowledged the takeoff clearance. I continued to taxi slow since we were heads down and had little situational awareness related to other traffic. As we approached the hold short line we both were about to say approach end looks clear; but it wasn't. There was a B737 that landed on runway 17R right in front of us. We were just about to cross the hold short line when we saw the B737 at about 30 ft over the runway 17R threshold. I did not take any evasive action. We asked the tower controller to cancel our takeoff clearance. We received a telephone number to call dfw tower after the flight. The dfw tower controller said that the B737 was cleared to land on runway 17C and landed on the wrong runway.
