Narrative:
I was called to the aircraft. I measured the dent dimensions; got paperwork from the mechanic; checked limits; it was out of limits; so I gave it to the lead technician to defer. Dent fell within all general conditions. Since the dent was already out of limits; I knew it would have to be deferred to continue service. In reading over the zones to get the proper inspection requirements; I failed to recognize that the dent also was out of limits per another paragraph which signifies a repair must be made or engineering must be involved.
