Narrative:
While at cruise FL280; master caution illuminated with ECAM message 'hydraulic engine #1 pump low pressure/G system low pressure.' completed ECAM actions; notified company via ACARS; declared emergency with ATC; notified flight attendants; notified passenger of precautionary landing; referenced QRH of operable/inoperable system and approach/landing considerations. Referenced volume 3 non-normals. When gear lowered early on extended final; enough green fluid returned to the green reservoir to return all system to normal. Normal landing and taxi in ensued. Green fluid level low; but in the green band. Postflt inspection revealed hydraulic leak below the rudder. I have subsequently been advised that notifying company via ACARS did not necessarily constitute direct contact with soc. Knowing dx/mx/maintenance controller all situation together; I assumed they shared information. We did receive an ACARS response from the company with an early alert number. I felt confident that all had been notified and all bases were covered.

Title: AN A320 ECAM DISPLAYED A GREEN SYS LOW PRESSURE. LEAL APPARENTLY ORIGINATED IN RUDDER SYS CAUSING LOW PRESSURE.
Narrative: WHILE AT CRUISE FL280; MASTER CAUTION ILLUMINATED WITH ECAM MESSAGE 'HYD ENG #1 PUMP LOW PRESSURE/G SYS LOW PRESSURE.' COMPLETED ECAM ACTIONS; NOTIFIED COMPANY VIA ACARS; DECLARED EMER WITH ATC; NOTIFIED FLT ATTENDANTS; NOTIFIED PAX OF PRECAUTIONARY LNDG; REFED QRH OF OPERABLE/INOPERABLE SYS AND APCH/LNDG CONSIDERATIONS. REFED VOLUME 3 NON-NORMALS. WHEN GEAR LOWERED EARLY ON EXTENDED FINAL; ENOUGH GREEN FLUID RETURNED TO THE GREEN RESERVOIR TO RETURN ALL SYS TO NORMAL. NORMAL LNDG AND TAXI IN ENSUED. GREEN FLUID LEVEL LOW; BUT IN THE GREEN BAND. POSTFLT INSPECTION REVEALED HYD LEAK BELOW THE RUDDER. I HAVE SUBSEQUENTLY BEEN ADVISED THAT NOTIFYING COMPANY VIA ACARS DID NOT NECESSARILY CONSTITUTE DIRECT CONTACT WITH SOC. KNOWING DX/MX/MAINT CTLR ALL SIT TOGETHER; I ASSUMED THEY SHARED INFO. WE DID RECEIVE AN ACARS RESPONSE FROM THE COMPANY WITH AN EARLY ALERT NUMBER. I FELT CONFIDENT THAT ALL HAD BEEN NOTIFIED AND ALL BASES WERE COVERED.
