Narrative:

I was acting first officer in the right seat PNF. My captain and I had just departed teb. Our clearance was the teb 5 departure direct white intersection departing runway 24. The departure procedure stated 'fly runway heading; at 1500 ft turn right to 280 degrees. At 4.5 DME from teb (on 280 degrees) climb and maintain 2000 ft.' we briefed the departure procedure prior to takeoff at least twice. On departure; I advised the captain we were at 1500 ft and began a right turn to 280 degrees; however; he continued to climb to 1700 ft. I stated 'maintain 1500 ft;' he stated; 'no; we can&' shortly thereafter; the controller queried our altitude. The captain told me to state 1500 ft. Were at 1700 ft. I told the controller we were at 1500 ft. He then gave me the local altimeter setting (which we had correctly set) and asked me to restate altitude. The captain again told me to respond 1500 ft. I did. The captain by this time had begun to slowly arrive at 1500 ft. Soon after we received clearance to direct vills intersection and to climb and maintain 6000 ft. We continued the flight with no further incidents.
