Narrative:

While on duty apr/sat/05; the shift began at XA30. No lead technicians assigned to the shift or at ZZZ. Later; I was assigned by a senior technician to a 'no land 3' pilot write-up on ship X. Ship X also had a maintenance set-up to certify ship X back to CAT III status. I performed the necessary tests to clear the write-up and certify the aircraft back to CAT III status. I am autoland designated and qualified to repair B757; B767-200; B767-300; B767-300 ETOPS. I am not qualified for ship X (B767-400 ETOPS). All these system (autoplts) are the same. That led me to believe I was qualified. I was told when I reported to work on apr/sun/05 that I was not qualified. I then called the maintenance coordinator for the B767-400 and told him of the situation. He assured me that he would have the next crew for ship X perform an autoland and record this in the logbook as a 'satisfactory' or 'unsatisfactory' to make the ship certified correctly as CAT III.

Narrative: WHILE ON DUTY APR/SAT/05; THE SHIFT BEGAN AT XA30. NO LEAD TECHNICIANS ASSIGNED TO THE SHIFT OR AT ZZZ. LATER; I WAS ASSIGNED BY A SENIOR TECHNICIAN TO A 'NO LAND 3' PLT WRITE-UP ON SHIP X. SHIP X ALSO HAD A MAINT SET-UP TO CERTIFY SHIP X BACK TO CAT III STATUS. I PERFORMED THE NECESSARY TESTS TO CLR THE WRITE-UP AND CERTIFY THE ACFT BACK TO CAT III STATUS. I AM AUTOLAND DESIGNATED AND QUALIFIED TO REPAIR B757; B767-200; B767-300; B767-300 ETOPS. I AM NOT QUALIFIED FOR SHIP X (B767-400 ETOPS). ALL THESE SYS (AUTOPLTS) ARE THE SAME. THAT LED ME TO BELIEVE I WAS QUALIFIED. I WAS TOLD WHEN I RPTED TO WORK ON APR/SUN/05 THAT I WAS NOT QUALIFIED. I THEN CALLED THE MAINT COORDINATOR FOR THE B767-400 AND TOLD HIM OF THE SIT. HE ASSURED ME THAT HE WOULD HAVE THE NEXT CREW FOR SHIP X PERFORM AN AUTOLAND AND RECORD THIS IN THE LOGBOOK AS A 'SATISFACTORY' OR 'UNSATISFACTORY' TO MAKE THE SHIP CERTIFIED CORRECTLY AS CAT III.
