Narrative:
Departing teb on runway 24 SID; first altitude was set to 1500 ft per SID. SID calls for a climb to 2000 ft at 4.5 DME. After takeoff first call to departure controller was 'off teb; climbing to 2000 ft on the teb 5.' controller asked for confirmation that we were climbing to 1500 ft; answer was affirmative. Controller asked if we knew when to climb to 2000 ft; response was 'at 4.5 DME.' controller answered 'that's correct.' aircraft following ours checked in the same way; controller seemed annoyed and responded; 'you're the second one to check in this way.'
