Narrative:

As we rotated off of runway 8R at mia; first officer flying noticed that a 747 had landed on our runway and cleared at intersection M10; but had not totally cleared the runway. There was approximately one third of the aircraft over the hold short line. It was not on the runway itself but still impeded on the runway area. I notified the tower when he switched us to departure control and he informed me that he had equipment that indicated the aircraft was clear. It was definitely not clear of the runway environment. Our flight continued normally to ZZZ. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter indicated that the subject B747; that was in the process of exiting the runway; was definitely not clear of the runway hold line. He stated that both mia ATC and others contacted within his company; indicated that hold lines do not have to be cleared by landing aircraft; and that landing aircraft only have to clear the runway edge for departure aircraft clearance.

Narrative: AS WE ROTATED OFF OF RWY 8R AT MIA; FO FLYING NOTICED THAT A 747 HAD LANDED ON OUR RWY AND CLRED AT INTXN M10; BUT HAD NOT TOTALLY CLRED THE RWY. THERE WAS APPROX ONE THIRD OF THE ACFT OVER THE HOLD SHORT LINE. IT WAS NOT ON THE RWY ITSELF BUT STILL IMPEDED ON THE RWY AREA. I NOTIFIED THE TWR WHEN HE SWITCHED US TO DEP CTL AND HE INFORMED ME THAT HE HAD EQUIP THAT INDICATED THE ACFT WAS CLR. IT WAS DEFINITELY NOT CLR OF THE RWY ENVIRONMENT. OUR FLT CONTINUED NORMALLY TO ZZZ. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR INDICATED THAT THE SUBJECT B747; THAT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF EXITING THE RWY; WAS DEFINITELY NOT CLR OF THE RWY HOLD LINE.
