Narrative:

Aircraft (tail) was in stn with the lavatory courtesy lights inoperative. The stn controller called me for an MEL and wanted to defer the system using 38-2. I issued the MEL after reading it. I did read it wrong and I also was thinking of the old revision where 38-2 was the correct MEL. The aircraft flew 24 hours with the wrong MEL.

Title: A MAINT CTLR DEFERRED AN EMB145 LAVATORY LIGHT USING CHAPTER 38 WATER WASTE AS REF. CORRECT REF IS CHAPTER 33 LIGHTING.

Narrative: ACFT (TAIL) WAS IN STN WITH THE LAVATORY COURTESY LIGHTS INOP. THE STN CTLR CALLED ME FOR AN MEL AND WANTED TO DEFER THE SYS USING 38-2. I ISSUED THE MEL AFTER READING IT. I DID READ IT WRONG AND I ALSO WAS THINKING OF THE OLD REVISION WHERE 38-2 WAS THE CORRECT MEL. THE ACFT FLEW 24 HRS WITH THE WRONG MEL.
