Narrative:
Cleared for takeoff on runway 27 at ZZZ. When throttles were advanced for takeoff; left engine would not accelerate. Aircraft did not start forward movement. Cleared runway with tower's permission and returned to gate. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated on return to the gate maintenance found the starter valve failed and replaced the valve.

Title: AN MD80 CLRED FOR TKOF. WHEN THROTTLES ADVANCED; #1 ENG WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. RETURNED TO GATE.
Narrative: CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 27 AT ZZZ. WHEN THROTTLES WERE ADVANCED FOR TKOF; L ENG WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. ACFT DID NOT START FORWARD MOVEMENT. CLRED RWY WITH TWR'S PERMISSION AND RETURNED TO GATE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED ON RETURN TO THE GATE MAINT FOUND THE STARTER VALVE FAILED AND REPLACED THE VALVE.
