Narrative:

On feb/tue/05; air carrier X returned to gate. Crew did a write-up. At 40 KTS; when autothrottle switch placed 'on;' we got a 'left generator off;' 'left AC power fault' on fault annunciator panel. On the status page we have. 'Left electrical system failure' and 'left eec performance penalty 2.' returned to gate. I met the aircraft at gate. Both engines shut down. Checked fault annunciator panel -- no indications at that time or any message on fault annunciator panel of 'left efc performance penalty 2.' talked to lead mechanic about message. Concluded that since there was no 'left eec performance penalty 2' on fault annunciator panel; it was not a real time fault. I checked the left variable speed constant frequency generator -- oil level ok. No differential pressure or oil filter indicators popped. Crew reported left electrical ok; picked up by #2. Forward to maintenance carryover and placard per MEL 24-21-01A. #1 engine generator inoperative. The fault 'left eec performance penalty 2' did not exist at this time. I should have made it clear in my signoff that no message existed at this time; which I did not.
