Narrative:

The slide was changed for time. On feb/fri/05; aircraft records found that the wrong part number was installed; and the correct one was then installed in ZZZ. When the slide was originally replaced in ZZZ1; the new slide was marked '737-700/800/900.' I was going to doublechk with the aircraft ipc for correct effectivity; but got sidetracked with other inspections and buybacks. The work card did not have any signoffs regarding effectivity; nor did it ever mention it; and I simply forgot about it. The parts tag was marked '737X;' and had no specific effectivity restr.

Title: A B737-700 HAD AN ESCAPE SLIDE CHANGED FOR TIME. INCORRECT SLIDE WAS INSTALLED AND NOT DISCOVERED BY INSTALLING TECHNICIAN OR INSPECTOR.

Narrative: THE SLIDE WAS CHANGED FOR TIME. ON FEB/FRI/05; ACFT RECORDS FOUND THAT THE WRONG PART NUMBER WAS INSTALLED; AND THE CORRECT ONE WAS THEN INSTALLED IN ZZZ. WHEN THE SLIDE WAS ORIGINALLY REPLACED IN ZZZ1; THE NEW SLIDE WAS MARKED '737-700/800/900.' I WAS GOING TO DOUBLECHK WITH THE ACFT IPC FOR CORRECT EFFECTIVITY; BUT GOT SIDETRACKED WITH OTHER INSPECTIONS AND BUYBACKS. THE WORK CARD DID NOT HAVE ANY SIGNOFFS REGARDING EFFECTIVITY; NOR DID IT EVER MENTION IT; AND I SIMPLY FORGOT ABOUT IT. THE PARTS TAG WAS MARKED '737X;' AND HAD NO SPECIFIC EFFECTIVITY RESTR.
