Narrative:
During descent into lax; crossing over smo VOR at 7000 ft; I noticed green laser beam illuminating through side cockpit window. It appeared to originate about 3-4 mi north of smo VOR. First officer could not see it. It lasted for 3-4 seconds. I reported it to socal approach and continued a normal approach and landing into lax.

Title: A B737-700 NEAR SMO; APCHING LAX; RECEIVING A 4 SECOND LASER BEAM IN THE CAPT'S WINDOW AT 7000 FT.
Narrative: DURING DSCNT INTO LAX; XING OVER SMO VOR AT 7000 FT; I NOTICED GREEN LASER BEAM ILLUMINATING THROUGH SIDE COCKPIT WINDOW. IT APPEARED TO ORIGINATE ABOUT 3-4 MI N OF SMO VOR. FO COULD NOT SEE IT. IT LASTED FOR 3-4 SECONDS. I RPTED IT TO SOCAL APCH AND CONTINUED A NORMAL APCH AND LNDG INTO LAX.
