Narrative:

Upon arrival at gate, shut down left engine and was awaiting external power when we saw the forward cargo EICAS message and cargo doors overhead light illuminated. The right engine was still running! With the present emphasis on not starting APU's ground crews must be aware of engines that are still running with the aircraft stopped. Shortly thereafter, external was established and the right engine shut down. It would take but a second for serious injury and possible death to occur to anyone walking in front of or closely behind an operating engine. This could have had a very unhappy and tragic ending.
