Narrative:

Given alico departure, took off runway 24, flying 238 degree heading and before reaching rsw 2.3 DME, departure control called and said, 'at 3000 ft turn left to 360 degrees.' so continued straight ahead and waited for 3000 ft to turn after given that new clearance. Departure called and said missed turn, thought new clearance superceded alico departure. If departure control would have waited another min till we were on the 270 degree heading to change the 310 degree heading to 360 degrees, there would have been no misunderstanding.
