Narrative:

Flight crew wrote up captain's display intermittent. Time approximately XA30. This aircraft was to depart at XE15 (approximately 4 hour delay). With so much ground time, I decided to replace display electronics unit computer #1. After checking maintenance components and parts compatibility and proper software installation, I replaced this computer per maintenance manual 31-62-21-4. Since I am not CAT III and had no way to re-certify to CAT III I waited for mechanics who start at XB30 to re-certify this aircraft for me. The aircraft got a bump up departure time and departed before it was re-certified to CAT III. Maintenance control was immediately notified and the aircraft was re-certified at next station. This aircraft departed without downgrading to CAT I minimums.
