Narrative:

After takeoff at approximately 500 ft, after gear retraction, we saw caution message of 'land as soon as possible' without associated ECAM due to takeoff inhibiter. We pressed recall and the ECAM of avionics smoke was displayed. I took the aircraft from the first officer as he ran the ECAM. Midfield downwind, level 3000 ft, flight attendants reported strong smoke odor. We completed the ECAM, and landed without incident. Total time airborne was 13 mins. Fire trucks followed us to gate and we shut down. Maintenance still working the problem.
