Narrative:

Several yrs ago, air carrier had 2 almost CFIT's into geg in a very short period of time. Both arriving from different directions. Both aircraft almost hit different mountains. One of these became a hot item. Recently, we have removed the 10-1 area chart for geg. This is our only means for accurately determining the terrain around the geg airport. We need to learn from our past mistakes and put this chart back in our books. WX was broken and overcast right on the mountain that bring you around. There is a tower on this mountain which was just missed by one of our crews on the hot items. On our flight we could not see this tower either on our approach. We were on vectors downwind for runway 21 which brings you right over the tower and mountain. It is all legal, however, if you are off for any reason, this could be bad. Low altitude chart shows low altitude chart for geg which is no longer in our books. There is no charted STAR for this arrival when coming into geg from den. We will get cleared direct from larimie and get vectors on this arrival. I have a lot of experience going into geg and being from this area. However, anyone unfamiliar with the area and a little off any altitude assignment could lead to a CFIT or worse. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: after receiving the pilot's report, they are issuing the area charts 10-1 at geg. Previously only the B737-300 went into geg.

Title: A320 PLT COMPLAINS ABOUT THE AREA CHART, 10-1, WAS REMOVED BY THE COMPANY AT GEG.

Narrative: SEVERAL YRS AGO, ACR HAD 2 ALMOST CFIT'S INTO GEG IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. BOTH ARRIVING FROM DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. BOTH ACFT ALMOST HIT DIFFERENT MOUNTAINS. ONE OF THESE BECAME A HOT ITEM. RECENTLY, WE HAVE REMOVED THE 10-1 AREA CHART FOR GEG. THIS IS OUR ONLY MEANS FOR ACCURATELY DETERMINING THE TERRAIN AROUND THE GEG ARPT. WE NEED TO LEARN FROM OUR PAST MISTAKES AND PUT THIS CHART BACK IN OUR BOOKS. WX WAS BROKEN AND OVCST RIGHT ON THE MOUNTAIN THAT BRING YOU AROUND. THERE IS A TWR ON THIS MOUNTAIN WHICH WAS JUST MISSED BY ONE OF OUR CREWS ON THE HOT ITEMS. ON OUR FLT WE COULD NOT SEE THIS TWR EITHER ON OUR APCH. WE WERE ON VECTORS DOWNWIND FOR RWY 21 WHICH BRINGS YOU RIGHT OVER THE TWR AND MOUNTAIN. IT IS ALL LEGAL, HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE OFF FOR ANY REASON, THIS COULD BE BAD. LOW ALT CHART SHOWS LOW ALT CHART FOR GEG WHICH IS NO LONGER IN OUR BOOKS. THERE IS NO CHARTED STAR FOR THIS ARR WHEN COMING INTO GEG FROM DEN. WE WILL GET CLRED DIRECT FROM LARIMIE AND GET VECTORS ON THIS ARR. I HAVE A LOT OF EXPERIENCE GOING INTO GEG AND BEING FROM THIS AREA. HOWEVER, ANYONE UNFAMILIAR WITH THE AREA AND A LITTLE OFF ANY ALT ASSIGNMENT COULD LEAD TO A CFIT OR WORSE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: AFTER RECEIVING THE PLT'S RPT, THEY ARE ISSUING THE AREA CHARTS 10-1 AT GEG. PREVIOUSLY ONLY THE B737-300 WENT INTO GEG.
