Narrative:

On taxi out for a flight from hto to hnl, the captain told me to request 'direct to julle intersection, and we will maintain our own terrain clearance' from the tower (ito). The reason he wanted me to tell the tower we would maintain our terrain clearance was because of a large mountain (13796 ft) almost in a direct line between us and julle intersection. As I was not completely sure of the legality of that procedure, even though ATC approved it, I advised the captain that 'I recommend we do not do this departure procedure.' the captain did it anyway. The flight was uneventful. However, I did not feel that it was the proper thing to do. The only thing I could do differently in the future is to just refuse the flight.

Narrative: ON TAXI OUT FOR A FLT FROM HTO TO HNL, THE CAPT TOLD ME TO REQUEST 'DIRECT TO JULLE INTXN, AND WE WILL MAINTAIN OUR OWN TERRAIN CLRNC' FROM THE TWR (ITO). THE REASON HE WANTED ME TO TELL THE TWR WE WOULD MAINTAIN OUR TERRAIN CLRNC WAS BECAUSE OF A LARGE MOUNTAIN (13796 FT) ALMOST IN A DIRECT LINE BTWN US AND JULLE INTXN. AS I WAS NOT COMPLETELY SURE OF THE LEGALITY OF THAT PROC, EVEN THOUGH ATC APPROVED IT, I ADVISED THE CAPT THAT 'I RECOMMEND WE DO NOT DO THIS DEP PROC.' THE CAPT DID IT ANYWAY.
