Narrative:
After I had dropped off the instructor I contacted ground and was told to taxi to runway 5 via taxiway C and to hold short of runway 35. I proceeded to taxi away from the FBO via taxiway C and held short of runway 35. Once cleared to taxi to runway 5, I proceeded across runway 35 and onto runway 5. Once at runway 5, I crossed the hold short line without stopping. Shortly afterwards, I realized that I never contacted tower. I quickly proceeded to do so. Once with tower, they asked if I was with them on frequency. I confirmed I was. They told me to continue and takeoff. I proceeded to do so. I believe the problem arose by me neglecting to contact tower soon enough. I realized there was a major problem when tower told another plane to do a go around. I believe one of the contributing factors would be my being in training.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A SOLO C172 STUDENT PLT INCURRED ON THE ACTIVE RWY.
Narrative: AFTER I HAD DROPPED OFF THE INSTRUCTOR I CONTACTED GND AND WAS TOLD TO TAXI TO RWY 5 VIA TXWY C AND TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 35. I PROCEEDED TO TAXI AWAY FROM THE FBO VIA TXWY C AND HELD SHORT OF RWY 35. ONCE CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 5, I PROCEEDED ACROSS RWY 35 AND ONTO RWY 5. ONCE AT RWY 5, I CROSSED THE HOLD SHORT LINE WITHOUT STOPPING. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, I REALIZED THAT I NEVER CONTACTED TWR. I QUICKLY PROCEEDED TO DO SO. ONCE WITH TWR, THEY ASKED IF I WAS WITH THEM ON FREQ. I CONFIRMED I WAS. THEY TOLD ME TO CONTINUE AND TKOF. I PROCEEDED TO DO SO. I BELIEVE THE PROB AROSE BY ME NEGLECTING TO CONTACT TWR SOON ENOUGH. I REALIZED THERE WAS A MAJOR PROB WHEN TWR TOLD ANOTHER PLANE TO DO A GAR. I BELIEVE ONE OF THE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS WOULD BE MY BEING IN TRAINING.
