Narrative:

This was leg 2 of 3 for the day. As first officer, it was my leg from las. Departed las on runway 1R with assigned climb vector of 315 degrees to intercept shead 2 RNAV departure. Experienced lightning strike (sight, sound, feel) on captain's side of radome just below the windscreen. Reported strike to departure control and requested leveloff (12000 ft) and vectors for precautionary return to las. Communicated intentions with flight attendants and las operations. Evaluation of all system as fully operational resulted in decision to not declare emergency. Completed all appropriate checklists and setup for straight-in landing to las runway 1L. In light of overweight landing condition (125700 pounds), reverted PF duties to captain. Smooth touchdown at minimal rate of descent, airspeed 142 KTS. Returned to gate for lightning strike and overweight landing inspections. No discrepancies found. Complied with brake cooling requirement. Maintenance log completed. Amended release obtained. Continuation of flight resumed approximately 2 hours behind schedule.
