Narrative:

Told for clearance to hold 280 degree heading from runway 24, was under the impression the departure was to a 2000 ft altitude with a rapid climb to 1500 ft before turning to 280 degrees. Upon reaching 2000 ft, departure said it was too high too soon that it interferes with some approach, said might as well have climbed to 5000 ft. Contributing factors: pushing to get off to make schedule, overly complicated SID. Slow down and hopefully the SID will be changed to one standard altitude instead of some step climb predicated on DME or radials.
