Narrative:

After #2 engine start and during #1 engine start attempt, we were notified by ramp control that we had a fire on our #2 engine. At no time did we have a fire indication in the cockpit. Engines were shutdown and discharged both fire agents. The fire marshal stated that there was a small fire in the core and discharged a hand held fire extinguisher in the core. After that he declared no fire was present and the aircraft was safe to be towed back to the gate. No emergency was declared and the aircraft was towed back to the gate. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the airplane has full authority/authorized digital electronic engine control on both engines. The reporter said the fire was located in the tailpipe and the fire and overheat loops are not positioned in this area. The reporter stated maintenance believes the engine was slow to spool and the fadec increased the fuel metered to the engine and loaded up the tailpipe. The reporter said the engine incurred no damage and the fadec was replaced.

Title: AN EMJ AFTER STARTING #2 ENG AND ATTEMPTING TO START #1 ENG, CREW WAS ALERTED BY RAMP CTL OF #2 ENG FIRE. EXTINGUISHED BY FIRE CREW.

Narrative: AFTER #2 ENG START AND DURING #1 ENG START ATTEMPT, WE WERE NOTIFIED BY RAMP CTL THAT WE HAD A FIRE ON OUR #2 ENG. AT NO TIME DID WE HAVE A FIRE INDICATION IN THE COCKPIT. ENGS WERE SHUTDOWN AND DISCHARGED BOTH FIRE AGENTS. THE FIRE MARSHAL STATED THAT THERE WAS A SMALL FIRE IN THE CORE AND DISCHARGED A HAND HELD FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN THE CORE. AFTER THAT HE DECLARED NO FIRE WAS PRESENT AND THE ACFT WAS SAFE TO BE TOWED BACK TO THE GATE. NO EMER WAS DECLARED AND THE ACFT WAS TOWED BACK TO THE GATE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE AIRPLANE HAS FULL AUTH DIGITAL ELECTRONIC ENG CTL ON BOTH ENGS. THE RPTR SAID THE FIRE WAS LOCATED IN THE TAILPIPE AND THE FIRE AND OVERHEAT LOOPS ARE NOT POSITIONED IN THIS AREA. THE RPTR STATED MAINT BELIEVES THE ENG WAS SLOW TO SPOOL AND THE FADEC INCREASED THE FUEL METERED TO THE ENG AND LOADED UP THE TAILPIPE. THE RPTR SAID THE ENG INCURRED NO DAMAGE AND THE FADEC WAS REPLACED.
