Narrative:

Upon lowering the landing gear on final approach to ZZZ runway 25L, we had 3 green gear lights, no door light, but the gear disagreement light remained on with a gear disagreement EICAS message. I executed a go around leaving the landing gear down and climbed eventually to 5000 ft with approach control. We ran the abnormal checklist and made a PA announcement to the passenger. I then declared an emergency and made a normal approach and landing to ZZZ runway 25L stopping on the runway to allow the ground crew to pin the gear. We were then towed to the gate after I made a second PA announcement. The gear disagreement light remained on until after we deplaned the passenger and left the aircraft. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the cause of the landing gear warning problem has not been reported by maintenance. The reporter said the airplane was taken OTS.
