Narrative:

While conducting a night training flight with a student, on short final for runway 17L, an unknown type of bird came up from the direction of the runway and struck the left leading edge of the wing. The tower controller was immediately notified of the strike. The approach and landing continued without further incident. The aircraft was taxied to the ramp and immediately inspected for damage. No physical damage was found other than some fresh paint being chipped off the leading edge about 6

Title: A C172 HAS A BIRD STRIKE ON SHORT FINAL TO RWY 17L AT APA DURING A NIGHT TRAINING FLT.

Narrative: WHILE CONDUCTING A NIGHT TRAINING FLT WITH A STUDENT, ON SHORT FINAL FOR RWY 17L, AN UNKNOWN TYPE OF BIRD CAME UP FROM THE DIRECTION OF THE RWY AND STRUCK THE L LEADING EDGE OF THE WING. THE TWR CTLR WAS IMMEDIATELY NOTIFIED OF THE STRIKE. THE APCH AND LNDG CONTINUED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THE ACFT WAS TAXIED TO THE RAMP AND IMMEDIATELY INSPECTED FOR DAMAGE. NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE WAS FOUND OTHER THAN SOME FRESH PAINT BEING CHIPPED OFF THE LEADING EDGE ABOUT 6
