Narrative:

When at the gate in ZZZ, during the boarding processes, we selected the APU bleed on and pack #2. We noticed an immediate spike of the APU egt in the amber range and the cabin started filling with smoke. We turned off the pack and closed the APU bleed and shutdown the APU. Then we received an APU oil high temperature EICAS message. We ran the checklists for air conditioning smoke, smoke removal and APU oil high temperature. I informed the passenger what had happened and told them to exit the aircraft and return to the gate until we had the problem checked out. I would categorize the smoke as a light haze with the smell of oil. Maintenance inspected the APU compartment and ran some tests. They deactivated and MEL'ed the APU and we ventilated the cabin. Once this was complete, we re-boarded the passenger and informed them what had happened and the action we took.
