Narrative:

Last night (sep/fri/04) while captain on flight abc, I was served a fish crew meal. Approximately 20 mins after consuming the meal I started to suffer what was later diagnosed as a severe allergic reaction to the fish I ate. I started to feel warm, followed by a headache. As the PF I attributed this to a touch of fatigue due to my long duty day (11.5 hours) and the preceding long 3 day trip I completed prior to this 1 day trip. We continued on and made an uneventful approach and landing to runway 14R at ord. After block in, I noticed my headache was worse and I felt even warmer. I stood up to use the lavatory. After looking at myself in the mirror I was shocked to see my eyes were extremely bloodshot and my whole face and upper torso were flushed bright red. The other crew members, after taking one look at me, agreed we should call the emt's. We did so after the passenger had deplaned. After a quick examination the emt's transported me to the hospital. En route they administered a shot of benadryl. After arrival at the hospital the staff did routine checks, blood pressure, pulse, etc. They dispensed oral medications, prednisone and pepcid, observed me for a few hours, and released me. I have never had an allergic reaction to any food or anything in my life prior to this incident. My crew meal choice is fish for both lunch and dinner, and again have never had any problems. The fish served was something I have never seen before at air carrier X. It was breaded with some type of white fish on the inside. Also, the flight kitchen should remove this fish from the menu to prevent other pilots from getting sick or allergic.
