Narrative:

Returning from wendover to slc, experienced engine roughness, then engine started missing. Began climbing and expecting possible engine failure, headed for tooele airport, climbing to 8500 ft MSL. Used 123.0 to activate runway lighting at tvy, then noticed that engine smoothed out at full rich, full power at 8500 ft. Thereafter, decided to try for slc. Declined controller's instruction to descend to 6000 ft as a precaution and remained at that altitude until runway at slc was sure.
