Narrative:

The jetway was backed away from the aircraft. We awaited for clearance to push back for engine start and taxi. Phl was experiencing a stopped situation due to storms and taxiway congestion. Sitting there with the APU operating, it was becoming extremely hot on the aircraft. After 45 mins the 'C' flight attendant called and said she was becoming sick and wanted to know if she could open the aft door. I gave her permission. Then the 'a' flight attendant called wanting to crack the front door. I again agreed. I was then thinking about protection of the door. I then called back and told 'a' flight attendant to be sure to protect the door from any person getting near. (Something just did not seem right to me.) a min later she returned the call and asked me if the door should be shut with the girt bar attached since we were away from the gate. I immediately realized that it was the proper, and safe, action/and immediately realized that that what was gnawing at me and told her to do it. At no time did we deliberately sacrifice safety for comfort. When our CRM made us realize the fact that the door should be closed, we did it. CRM worked. In all, the doors were opened for a maximum of 5 mins.
