Narrative:

I was working the tyson position in the mtv sector of pct. Air carrier X was a sbound departure off of dca's runway 19. I had radar contact on air carrier X and turned him to a 290 degree heading at 5 DME and climbed him to 5000 ft. Air carrier Y, an arrival to dca's runway 19, was turned to the downwind and descended to 6000 ft. A few mi later I turned air carrier X further right to a 330 degree heading and climbed him to 17000 ft. I believed I had adequate spacing. Approximately 5 mi later, 15 mi northwest of dca, separation was lost between air carrier X and air carrier Y. I realized that there was a problem and turned air carrier X to a 270 degree heading, air carrier X advised me he was responding to a resolution alert. I advised the operations supervisor and was relieved of the position.
