Narrative:

On climb out from jfk, at about 7000 ft, the #2 generator faulted. The #2 AC bus had become unpwred with this failure. All of the first officer's side of the aircraft was unpwred, and the passenger cabin was without power. The APU was started, the APU generator was available, but would not power the AC bus #2. With only 1 generator pwring the aircraft, no first officer instruments, and the failure unexplained. I decided to return to jfk for an immediate landing. All system were available for our arrival. The aircraft was taken OTS for maintenance to correct the failure.
