Narrative:

Approaching taxiway west on taxiway right, expecting imminent takeoff clearance on runway 22R from taxiway west. Instead given clearance to cross runway 29 for runway 22R full-length. Both first officer and I thought we heard position and hold. Our first indication that was not true was when tower said 'air carrier X, I see you're on the runway.' fatigue was a factor. Duty day prior ended at XA30 EDT. No go around or other traffic conflicts occurred as a result. 2 aircraft did take off ahead of us on runway 22R at taxiway west.
