Narrative:

Electromagnetic interference. This MD80 is different than other company MD80's when using the VHF navigation, especially for approach in the ILS mode. We were on approach for ILS runway 4R to ord and apparently got some sort of false lock on the localizer. It was tuned and idented. We were IMC at the time of intercept. Approach said we were left of course so we attempted to reset everything and reintercept the course. This is where the problem starts with this aircraft. This aircraft must have both ILS's tuned to the same frequency to intercept the glide path. At the same time on this approach, the PNF has to tune in ord VOR to know where you are for crossing points. This being the first time either of us had flown this confign we were a bit slow getting everything reset and on course. There were no conflicts but we were behind getting corrected to course.

Title: FLT CREW OF MD80 ON ILS APCH TO RWY 4R AT ORD DIVERT FROM THE LOC DUE TO MALFUNCTIONING OR INCORRECTLY OPERATED ILS RECEIVER.

Narrative: ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE. THIS MD80 IS DIFFERENT THAN OTHER COMPANY MD80'S WHEN USING THE VHF NAV, ESPECIALLY FOR APCH IN THE ILS MODE. WE WERE ON APCH FOR ILS RWY 4R TO ORD AND APPARENTLY GOT SOME SORT OF FALSE LOCK ON THE LOC. IT WAS TUNED AND IDENTED. WE WERE IMC AT THE TIME OF INTERCEPT. APCH SAID WE WERE L OF COURSE SO WE ATTEMPTED TO RESET EVERYTHING AND REINTERCEPT THE COURSE. THIS IS WHERE THE PROB STARTS WITH THIS ACFT. THIS ACFT MUST HAVE BOTH ILS'S TUNED TO THE SAME FREQ TO INTERCEPT THE GLIDE PATH. AT THE SAME TIME ON THIS APCH, THE PNF HAS TO TUNE IN ORD VOR TO KNOW WHERE YOU ARE FOR XING POINTS.
