Narrative:

I had to change the right aft slide for a time change. I took the part from pre-draw and, upon installation, the hardware was missing for the latch that holds the cover shut. So I removed the parts from the old slide and installed on the new slide and installed on the aircraft. When the part got back to the slide shop without the hardware, the shop had the aircraft checked and the new hardware installed. That's when I was notified, that there was an eco (engineering change order) to replace the hardware. I didn't know that at the time.
