Narrative:

Reporting on left downwind runway 27, flying into hgr. There were numerous aircraft being controled by radio on the tower. I was told to extend downwind while 2 aircraft were cleared to final. I was asked if I had a visual. I answered I did not. I was cleared for base and then had to ask for final having flown well past the extended centerline. As the last of the other 2 aircraft in front of me landed I was given clearance to land. Other aircraft was landing behind me and I was told to turn right on what I thought was runway 2 and contact ground on 'point 9.' I turned right on the first turnoff (runway 2) and contacted ground. I was cleared to taxi: taxiway a to taxiway B following a boeing stearman and another experimental and all three to hold short of runway 27. I read back then as I recall. Ground control asked in the future to exit runway using a taxiway. This is where I perceived there may be a problem. I was assuming a right turnoff of the active at the first available spot after rollout, due to the high number of aircraft landing. Perhaps I misunderstood the instructions or the transmission was garbled due to intensive traffic communications. I now am assuming tower instructed me to turn right taxiway C, which would have been the next right turnoff beyond the actual turnoff onto runway 2. Corrective action and human factor: I should read back all instructions involving taxi using a runway.

Title: EXPERIMENTAL MUSTANG 2 PLT LANDED AT HGR AND TURNED OFF ON A RWY INSTEAD OF A TXWY.

Narrative: RPTING ON L DOWNWIND RWY 27, FLYING INTO HGR. THERE WERE NUMEROUS ACFT BEING CTLED BY RADIO ON THE TWR. I WAS TOLD TO EXTEND DOWNWIND WHILE 2 ACFT WERE CLRED TO FINAL. I WAS ASKED IF I HAD A VISUAL. I ANSWERED I DID NOT. I WAS CLRED FOR BASE AND THEN HAD TO ASK FOR FINAL HAVING FLOWN WELL PAST THE EXTENDED CTRLINE. AS THE LAST OF THE OTHER 2 ACFT IN FRONT OF ME LANDED I WAS GIVEN CLRNC TO LAND. OTHER ACFT WAS LNDG BEHIND ME AND I WAS TOLD TO TURN R ON WHAT I THOUGHT WAS RWY 2 AND CONTACT GND ON 'POINT 9.' I TURNED R ON THE FIRST TURNOFF (RWY 2) AND CONTACTED GND. I WAS CLRED TO TAXI: TXWY A TO TXWY B FOLLOWING A BOEING STEARMAN AND ANOTHER EXPERIMENTAL AND ALL THREE TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 27. I READ BACK THEN AS I RECALL. GND CTL ASKED IN THE FUTURE TO EXIT RWY USING A TXWY. THIS IS WHERE I PERCEIVED THERE MAY BE A PROB. I WAS ASSUMING A R TURNOFF OF THE ACTIVE AT THE FIRST AVAILABLE SPOT AFTER ROLLOUT, DUE TO THE HIGH NUMBER OF ACFT LNDG. PERHAPS I MISUNDERSTOOD THE INSTRUCTIONS OR THE XMISSION WAS GARBLED DUE TO INTENSIVE TFC COMS. I NOW AM ASSUMING TWR INSTRUCTED ME TO TURN R TXWY C, WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN THE NEXT R TURNOFF BEYOND THE ACTUAL TURNOFF ONTO RWY 2. CORRECTIVE ACTION AND HUMAN FACTOR: I SHOULD READ BACK ALL INSTRUCTIONS INVOLVING TAXI USING A RWY.
