Narrative:

After the run-up, I reviewed the departure procedure for runway 15 and set the appropriate navigation heads, GPS, DME accordingly. I was cleared for takeoff and released. At about 1500 ft MSL, I was told to contact departure control, which I did. I attempted to check on twice and was blocked. On the third attempt, I was successful and made contact with the controller who was very pleasant. According to the depicted picture diagram, I started my turn towards vny VOR per the procedure. I turned to 260 degrees and came very close to interfering with the arrival corridor for bur runway 8. I was instructed immediately to turn left to 160 degrees, which I did. There were no conflicts or separation issues since no one was on the approach course at the time and it was VFR conditions. The controller was very professional and instructed me to review the procedure again noting it states maintain heading 210 degrees and expect radar vectors. I immediately apologized for my mistake and reviewed it again. He was correct. I had made a mental error while reviewing the chart prior to departure. I turned towards vny prior to being instructed to, thus causing a problem. I had the picture of the procedure in my mind and overlooked the vector portion in the test box that clearly states the actual procedure to be followed for runway 15. WX, equipment, and the controling facilities were not factors. I made a human error and mental mistake.

Title: PA32 PLT MISREADS DEP PROC AND MAKES A TURN, WHICH ENCROACHES ON THE ARR CORRIDOR AT A NEARBY ARPT.

Narrative: AFTER THE RUN-UP, I REVIEWED THE DEP PROC FOR RWY 15 AND SET THE APPROPRIATE NAV HEADS, GPS, DME ACCORDINGLY. I WAS CLRED FOR TKOF AND RELEASED. AT ABOUT 1500 FT MSL, I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT DEP CTL, WHICH I DID. I ATTEMPTED TO CHK ON TWICE AND WAS BLOCKED. ON THE THIRD ATTEMPT, I WAS SUCCESSFUL AND MADE CONTACT WITH THE CTLR WHO WAS VERY PLEASANT. ACCORDING TO THE DEPICTED PICTURE DIAGRAM, I STARTED MY TURN TOWARDS VNY VOR PER THE PROC. I TURNED TO 260 DEGS AND CAME VERY CLOSE TO INTERFERING WITH THE ARR CORRIDOR FOR BUR RWY 8. I WAS INSTRUCTED IMMEDIATELY TO TURN L TO 160 DEGS, WHICH I DID. THERE WERE NO CONFLICTS OR SEPARATION ISSUES SINCE NO ONE WAS ON THE APCH COURSE AT THE TIME AND IT WAS VFR CONDITIONS. THE CTLR WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL AND INSTRUCTED ME TO REVIEW THE PROC AGAIN NOTING IT STATES MAINTAIN HDG 210 DEGS AND EXPECT RADAR VECTORS. I IMMEDIATELY APOLOGIZED FOR MY MISTAKE AND REVIEWED IT AGAIN. HE WAS CORRECT. I HAD MADE A MENTAL ERROR WHILE REVIEWING THE CHART PRIOR TO DEP. I TURNED TOWARDS VNY PRIOR TO BEING INSTRUCTED TO, THUS CAUSING A PROB. I HAD THE PICTURE OF THE PROC IN MY MIND AND OVERLOOKED THE VECTOR PORTION IN THE TEST BOX THAT CLRLY STATES THE ACTUAL PROC TO BE FOLLOWED FOR RWY 15. WX, EQUIP, AND THE CTLING FACILITIES WERE NOT FACTORS. I MADE A HUMAN ERROR AND MENTAL MISTAKE.
