Narrative:

On rotation from runway 24L, we made contact with the runway at 11 degree pitch. It was very gusty at the time and the airspeed dropped 5 KTS after initial rotation. We did not realize that we had struck the tail until the flight attendants in the rear jump seats called us. We called maintenance and also sent a message to operations. Maintenance told us to continue on to lax since pressurization was normal. At lax the green mark was still visible, but maintenance elected to change the skid cartridge.
